Eric Bieniemy expected to return to Chiefs

Eric Bieniemy has gone through another hiring cycle without landing a head coaching job, and it sounds like he will remain in his current role.

Bienemy’s contract with the Kansas City Chiefs expired after the season. He signed a one-year extension prior to 2021 in hopes of potentially landing a head coaching job for 2022, but that did not happen. According to FanSided’s Matt Verderame, Bienemy will not return as offensive coordinator of the Chiefs.

Bieniemy has been an assistant on Andy Reid’s staff since Ried was hired as Chiefs head coach n 2013. He was promoted to offensive coordinator in 2018. Many feel the 52-year-old has earned the right to be a head coach given how good Kansas City’s offense has been. Bieniemy drew interest from at least one team this offseason but did not get the job.

There was some talk of Bieniemy potentially leaving the Chiefs to take an OC job elsewhere, but he has apparently decided to stick with Reid for at least one more season.
