ESPN analyst calls idea of Packers winning out, making playoffs 'almost absurd'

For as bad as the 2022 season has been for the Green Bay Packers they still have a mathematical chance to make the NFC playoffs as a wild card team.

A lot has to happen, starting with them winning all four of their remaining games.

ESPN's Ryan Clark is one person that has no time for that discussion, calling the very idea of "almost absurd."

After Mike Greenberg, the host of ESPN's Get Up said he thinks the Packers will win out and get the external help they need to get in, Clark responded by saying it is "almost absurd" given the way Aaron Rodgers is playing as well as the remaining schedule.

And he's not wrong. It does seem absurd to think this could actually happen. Not only have the Packers been disappointing and inconsistent across all phases of the game (including Rodgers) a LOT needs to happen for them to get in,

The most important requirement is the Packers winning four consecutive games against the Los Angeles Rams, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, and Detroit Lions.

That is a tough schedule. The Rams game is absolutely winnable, but that is followed by games against Minnesota and Miami teams that are not going to be easy, as well as a Lions team that is one of the hottest teams in the league right now.

Assuming they do somehow pull that off, they also need Washington or the New York Giants to lose three of their remaining four games. While that does seem like it is asking a lot, this variable at least seems possible because one of those teams is going to lose on Sunday (assuming they do not tie again) and that team would only need to lose two games the rest of the way. Both teams play brutal remaining schedules. Washington has to play San Francisco, Cleveland, and Dallas over its final three games, while the Giants (who are already falling apart) have games against Minnesota, Indianapolis, and Dallas. A lot of it would depend on what some of those opponents have to play for. But it is possible.

Along with all of that, they would need Seattle to lose just one of its remaining three games. This also seems very much in play as the Seahawks (like the Giants) are already sliding, and have games against Kansas City and the New York Jets ahead.

So the potential for the external help is certainly there.

But again. How is this Packers team that has only won five games all year, and only two of its past seven games, going to win four games in a row against that schedule?

Ryan Clark is right. It is absurd.
