ESPN FPI Gives Historic NFL Team Nearly No Chance At Super Bowl

Wild Card weekend has arrived, giving fans the initial taste of top Super Bowl contenders from the playoff pool.

As fans equip themselves for a few big-time matchups, ESPN revealed its updated Football Power Index (FPI) rankings.

The computer-generated system calculates team statistics and win probability to disclose those with the highest and lowest odds at the Super Bowl.

The Detroit Lions are currently the heavy favorite to win the Super Bowl, with the FPI giving the No. 1 team in the NFC a 26.1% chance to hoist the Lombardi. The Baltimore Ravens have the second-best odds at 13.5%.

One team in the AFC, which finished the season with a commanding win over the Kansas City Chiefs, the Denver Broncos have nearly no chance at winning the Super Bowl in the eyes of the FPI rankings.

ESPN's FPI gives the Broncos a 1.5% chance to win the Super Bowl, despite finishing the season winning four of their last six games.

The Broncos will face off against MVP candidate Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills. They'll go head-to-head against the Bills on Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. ET.

Denver is led by rookie quarterback Bo Nix. Despite playing in his first season at the professional level, Nix has shown the confidence and skill set to take down some of the top teams in the league.

So far this season, Nix has posted 29 touchdowns and 3,775 yards with a 66.3 completion percentage.

The Broncos have also fielded one of the most stout defenses in the NFL. Denver is allowing just 18.3 points and 96.4 rushing yards per game.

While the Broncos seem to be equipped to make some noise in the playoffs, a Wild Card matchup against Buffalo may be too tall of a task for Nix and company.
