The Kansas City Chiefs appear to be set at cornerback. Brett Veach might see things differently.
Despite boasting a unit filled with quality young competitors with loads of playoff experience, the Chiefs might have been shopping in the aisle marked "Big Name Cornerbacks" in recent days. Nothing is certain, but a new report from Jeremy Fowler featured an intriguing bit of information on the scrolling news ticker.
Check out the odd free agent update here from Fowler's report on the Balitmore Ravens' recent signing of corner Jaire Alexander:

The Ravens made waves earlier in June when they landed Alexander on a cheap one-year deal that brings the oft-injured former Pro Bowler to Baltimore.
In case you can't read the ticker in the embedded post above, it reads that Alexander landed with the Ravens "despite Chiefs also showing interest."
Here's where things get even more interesting: Fowler's report in the actual on-air story fails to mention the Chiefs even though he does bring up multiple other franchises that were in on Alexander as a free agent. Here's what Fowler had to say:
"Here's how it all went down. Eric DeCosta, the GM of the Ravens, was in on this back in March, even flirting with a trade possibility. So when [Alexander] became available, they made a quick call.
"Jaire agreed to visit the team, but didn't make any sort of commitment until he was on site, and he just had great chemistry with everybody. They were heavily recruiting him. Falcons, he was considering, Miami Dolphins, he was also considering, but Baltimore had the clear edge throughout that process."
Fowler verbally mentions the Dolphins and Falcons but the ESPN graphic says the Chiefs were also interested. Why the disparity? Why doesn't Fowler mention that aspect verbally?
If you read into the way things are worded all around, Fowler's report says that Alexander was interested in potentially joining Miami and Atlanta. The inclusion of the Chiefs in any of this only points to alleged interest on the team's side. Perhaps that's the rub: that Kansas City expressed an interest in Alexander joining the mix but the veteran corner didn't want to entertain the idea.
All of this is speculation, of course, but it's interesting on a couple of levels. First, Alexander is a rarely available player who has played seven games or less in three of the last four seasons. That said, he's also a high-ceiling talent who has been named second-team All-Pro in two of his four healthy years.
More importantly for the Chiefs, does this mean Veach is a bit discontent with what he has at cornerback? Or was Alexander such a special talent that adding him was an worthwhile move no matter what was already in house?
The Chiefs have an All-Pro on their hands already in Trent McDuffie, with Jaylen Watson and Kristian Fulton also around as likely starters on the boundary (assuming McDuffie slides into a slot role on passing downs). From there, the Chiefs also have Joshua Williams and rookie Nohl Williams on the depth chart with a slew of familiar faces competing for any further reps.
It's also possible that someone wrote the wrong team name on a live SportsCenter broadcast and all of this is for nothing. But if the Chiefs were kicking the tires on Alexander, it's a funny way to find out. It's also notable for the position going forward.
