ESPN graphic of 2013 coaching staff continues to haunt Commanders fans

Washington Commanders fans watching the Indianapolis Colts and Houston Texans game on Saturday probably didn’t appreciate the shoutout their team received during the ESPN broadcast.

Commanders supporters are likely well aware of the loaded coaching staff the team had back in 2013. Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik, who served as a defensive assistant in D.C., is the latest name from the decade-old Washington staff to generate some buzz.

The Colts and Texans broadcast shared a graphic with Slowik alongside current NFL head coaches Matt LaFleur, Sean McVay, Kyle Shanahan, and Mike McDaniel. All were members of Washington’s 2013 staff under Kyle’s father Mike Shanahan.

The 2013 Washington coaching graphic has continued to evolve over the years, with more names emerging from the same group as they've found success elsewhere in the NFL.

McDaniel has proved to be an elite play-caller as head coach of the Miami Dolphins.

Slowik may get looks for a head-coaching job next season given how well he’s performed as the Texans’ OC. But he’ll probably need to hold off on any potential interviews given that the Texans clinched a playoff berth following their 23-19 win over the Colts.

The Commanders are reportedly considering a head-coaching change at season’s end. Perhaps signing one of their 2013 staff members is what was meant to happen all along.
