ESPN raises more red flags about Lions' offseason in latest NFL rankings

We're so close to putting this offseason behind us. In barely two weeks, there's going to be hardly any conversation about how the Lions' botched it this winter, or got real weird this spring, or literally any of the other seasonally-depressing Takes that have shown up since that miserable Divisional round loss.

So, the good news is that it's almost over. The bad news is that 'almost' is doing most of the heavy lifting there. We still have two-ish weeks of everyone recapping the Lions' offseason, and everything that comes with that. For instance, ESPN (kinda randomly) dropped a long list of NFL offseason grades this week, and in it spent a good chunk of words once again raining on Detroit's parade. Issac TeSlaa is going to tear the NFL Draft community apart, apparently.

"The Lions are dealing with the challenge of their previous success, which resulted in the departure of both of their coordinators for head coaching jobs. Did Dan Campbell hire well again when he made former Broncos passing game coordinator John Morton his offensive coordinator and promoted linebackers coach Kelvin Sheppard to defensive coordinator? Those answers could define Detroit's 2025 season ... My biggest qualm came during the draft. At least according to ESPN's Draft Day Predictor, the Lions reached in the first round when they selected Williams. They then traded up to make a severe reach in Round 3 for TeSlaa at pick 70. While we don't always know how the league perceives a player, the Lions have made a habit of this inefficient behavior. It has worked for thus far for this regime, but it's still bad process."

ESPN's Draft Day predictor didn't like some of Detroits' picks?! UGH. "The Lions have figured out a draft wrinkle that other teams haven't yet, but it's still a bad process," is certainly one piece of analysis. All things considered, a B- doesn't actually feel that bad? Especially when 90% of the blurb boils down to 'their window might be closed.'
