ESPN writer claims ‘There’s No Way’ Tyreek Hill Returns to Dolphins on Current Deal
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill doesn’t appear to be a shoo-in to play at all in the coming 2026 NFL season. He suffered a graphic, season-ending knee injury against the New York Jets pretty early on in the 2025 season, allegedly both dislocating his knee and tearing ligaments. Considering injuries have resulted in his quality of play taking a dip in recent seasons, it’s probably safe to assume that Hill won’t ever get back to starring at the level he was early in his Dolphins tenure, either.
But he’s still set to be paid like a superstar in the 2026 season, as he will carry a cap hit of almost $52 million. Miami seemingly does’t want to dedicate so much of its salary cap to an over-the-hill and injury-riddled star, though, and according to ESPN’s Dolphins reporter Marcel Louis-Jacques, “there’s no way” Hill returns to the them on his current deal “if at all.”
“From one expensive player to another, the Dolphins will have to make a decision on wide receiver Tyreek Hill’s contract,” he wrote. “He missed most of this season with a dislocated knee, and there’s no certainty he returns to his trademark level of play. Considering he represents a nearly $30 million cap hit in 2026, there’s no way Hill returns on his current deal — if at all.”
Hill’s always been a highly talented yet controversial player, but he’s perhaps at a point in his NFL career where he’s not impacting the game at a level that makes him worth the off-the-field headaches anymore. He’s totaled just 1,224 receiving yards across 21 games played in his last two seasons in Miami after he racked up a league-best 1,799 in the 2023 campaign alone.
The 31-year-old has arguably gone through a steeper decline than any receiver in the league over the last three seasons, as in that short span, he went from an MVP and Offensive Player of the Year candidate to a guy who’s not even a premier player at his own position. Moreover, he’s certainly not worth all the money he’s set to earn in the 2026 campaign, and it seems like a sure thing that Hill will not be on the same contract when the new season kicks off. His contractual situation will be one to monitor.
