ESPN's Dan Orlovsky Gives Bold Prediction for Patriots' Rookies

The New England Patriots will enter the first year of a new era under head coach Mike Vrabel in 2025, and much of their success will be determined by young quarterback Drake Maye.

In Vrabel's first draft with the Patriots, New England spent its first, second, and third round picks on offensive players to build around their second-year quarterback.

The Patriots' offense was a mess in 2024, and they could not protect Maye or find much success. In the offseason, New England signed two offensive linemen and two receivers, and then the Patriots drafted two more offensive linemen, a running back, and a receiver in the first three rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft.

New England tried to address the offensive inefficiency in the offseason, and recently, ESPN's Dan Orlovsky gave a bold prediction about the Patriots' offensive rookies.

“The Patriots’ first three picks, I’m obsessed with them,” Orlovsky said in a recent “NFL Live” segment (h/t Boston.com ). "Will Campbell in the first round, the protection for Drake Maye on the back side. TreVeyon Henderson in the second round at running back, and then Kyle Williams. I think Kyle Williams has the chance to be as impactful a rookie receiver that we have in the NFL this year.”

Considering the Patriots signed Stefon Diggs this offseason, that's high praise for the rookie Williams. Not to mention, New England has tight end Hunter Henry and slot receiver DeMario Douglas returning. But Orlovsky believes Williams can fit right in.

Williams did have a stellar season at Washington State in 2024. The lightning-fast receiver hauled 70 catches for 1,198 yards and 14 touchdowns last year. The Patriots are about a week into training camp, and all three rookies are impressing early on.

“If those three rookies can be big-time players for the Patriots, there’s a chance this organization and team are going to make noise a lot sooner than people expect," Orlovsky said.

The Patriots are coming off back-to-back four-win seasons, but Orlovsky thinks they could be on the brink of massive improvement. It's hard to put too much stock into offseason hype, but all things seem positive coming out of Patriots' camp early on.
