Orlovsky: Darnold 'more talented' than QBs in 2022 draft
Carolina Panthers quarterback Sam Darnold could be the starter again in 2022. Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

This year’s class of quarterback prospects available in the 2022 NFL Draft has not been too highly regarded. One ESPN NFL analyst put into perspective just how weak the class might be.

Dan Orlovsky was talking on “NFL Live” on Friday about the Panthers’ quarterback situation. Carolina has the No. 6 overall pick in the draft, plus a glaring need for a franchise quarterback. However, Orlovsky doesn’t think they should take a quarterback in that spot.

Why? Orlovsky thinks the 2022 QB class is so weak that incumbent Carolina quarterback Sam Darnold is better than what is available.

That’s a pretty ominous sign.

Whether it was with the Jets or the Panthers, Darnold has been a mediocre at best quarterback during his four NFL seasons. He has 54 career touchdown passes and 52 career interceptions. That’s not franchise QB material.

What does it say about the QBs in this year’s draft that Orlovsky doesn’t think any of them are worth a pick that high to replace Darnold? That’s not good. Orlovsky says the one quarterback who intrigues him is Malik Willis, but No. 6 is too high of a pick to use on him.

Carolina fans better get used to another season under Darnold possibly.
