Evaluating Trevor Lawrence’s Role in the Jaguars Quest for 2025 Success

Trevor Lawrence entered the NFL as one of the most hyped quarterback prospects in a generation. A national champion at Clemson and the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, he was supposed to be the savior for a long-struggling Jacksonville Jaguars franchise. But three seasons in, the results are mixed—and the blame can’t all fall on Lawrence.

Yes, the numbers haven’t lived up to expectations. And yes, Lawrence hasn’t always looked the part of a top-tier quarterback. But it’s worth examining the environment he’s been asked to thrive in. After all, even the best quarterbacks need support, stability, and structure.

Jacksonville has already had multiple offensive coordinators and is now on its third head coach since drafting Lawrence. This year brings Liam Coen, known for his offensive acumen, but also yet another new system for Lawrence to learn. That lack of continuity has hindered many young quarterbacks in the past—and Lawrence may be no different.

He’s also had to deal with one of the league’s worst offensive lines, a non-existent run game, and a defense that often left him playing from behind. With all that in mind, how much can we reasonably expect from a 24-year-old quarterback trying to meet sky-high expectations?

To Jacksonville’s credit, they’ve taken some steps. Wideout Brian Thomas Jr. enters his second year with breakout potential, and the team spent the No. 2 overall pick on do-it-all star Travis Hunter. But is it too little, too late?

As contract talks loom and public scrutiny builds, it’s easy to say the pressure is on Lawrence. But perhaps the more important question is: has Jacksonville done enough to help him succeed—or are they setting him up to take the fall for organizational failures?

Either way, 2025 feels like a turning point. And how the Jaguars support their quarterback this season may determine the trajectory of both his career and the franchise’s future.
