NFL free agency is set to start on March 11th. There will undoubtedly be some massive signings, but what are teams looking for? Here’s every NFL team’s biggest need in free agency. Today, we’re looking at the NFC West.
The Cardinals are expected to make major changes. They have parted ways with head coach Jonathan Gannon, brought in Mike LeFleur, and may be moving on from QB Kyler Murray.
Arizona does currently have Jacoby Brissett under contract. They’ll most likely keep him under center and address the position in the 2027 NFL Draft. Their defense needs help, and they could target a pass-rusher in free agency.
Trey Hendrickson, Khalil Mack, and Joey Bosa are the biggest names on the market this year. It’s more likely that Arizona will go with some cost-friendly options all over the defense. They won’t be making splashes until they get their QB next year.
The 49ers traded Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders last year. They also paid Brandon Aiyuk, who, by the GM’s own admission, is likely done in red and gold. On top of those losses, Jauan Jennings requested a trade last year, and it wasn’t granted. He’s now about to hit the open market.
The Niners’ receiver room could consist of Ricky Pearsall, Kendrick Bourne, and DeMarcus Robinson. They’ll need to go shopping this offseason. Names like Mike Evans, Christian Kirk, and even George Pickens could become available, and they should all be getting phone calls from San Francisco.
If the New York Giants elect not to pay Wan’Dale Robinson, he could find himself in the Bay Area. He’s 25 years old and coming off his first 1,000-yard season. The Niners could opt to trade for a receiver, but they’re unlikely to give up any real capital.
While the defending Super Bowl champions are a complete team right now, they could face some losses in the offseason. Running back Kenneth Walker is negotiating a new deal, while cornerbacks Josh Jobe and Riq Woolen, along with safety Coby Bryant, could find their way out of Seattle.
It’s doubtful that every player listed will walk in the offseason, but it’s also doubtful they’ll all be retained. The Seahawks will have the 32nd pick in the 2026 Draft and can address this position there if they want to.
If they do shoot for free agency, they could go for players who can easily slot into a championship team. It would, however, be in their best interest to try to keep their defense as intact as possible.
With Matthew Stafford announcing his intentions to return in 2026, the Rams are going to need to shore up the roster for another run. While they need receiver depth and cornerback help, the offensive line should be the top priority.
Rob Havenstein announced his retirement on February 10th, and D.J. Humphries could hit the open market. If the New York Giants fail to retain right tackle Jermaine Eleumunor, he’ll find himself with multiple suitors.
The Rams could also turn to a veteran presence for another “all-in” run. Kelvin Beachum is 36 years old and likely to leave the Cardinals. He might be an easy option for LA to slot in and forego any significant adjustment period.
The NFC West is arguably the best division in the NFL. Three of the four teams were in the playoffs, while the Rams and Seahawks met in the NFC Championship. All of these teams will be looking to make moves in the offseason. Check out my NFC East and AFC East editions here.
