Everyone Thinks Beloved NFL Wide Receiver is Retiring After Sunday's Game

If the clothes make the man, then star wide receiver Tyler Lockett of the Seahawks may have been saying quite a bit on Sunday. That's because Lockett, who is 32 and in his 10th season with the Seahawks, appeared to be sending a message with his cleats ahead of Seattle's Week 18 game against the Rams.

Lockett wore cleats to open the game that harkened back to the day he was drafted, back in Aprill 2015, which showed the graphic that announced his selection as the thrid-round pick of the Seahawks, No. 69 overall, after a stellar career at Kansas State.

On his other shoe was a list of reason he's been grateful for his NFL career.

A picture of the cleats made the rounds on social media.

Lockett has hinted that he is ready for retirement before. He once noted that he planned to reitre at 30 years old, but played past that milestone. He later explained:

"It just sounded like a good year," Lockett said, via The Seattle Times. "It was like when my financial lady asked me, ‘When do you want to retire? I said ‘30.'

“It was like, ‘All right, you’re 30.' I was like, ‘Ah, I’ll just keep on playing.’”

Lockett is averaging 35.8 yards per game this season, the second-lowest of his career. He has caught just two touchdowns this season. Lockett is wrapping up the first year of a two-year, $29.7 million contract he signed last year.

But the Seahawks have an opt-out that comes with only $4 million of dead cap, which means he has likely played his last game in Seattle, either way. Should Lockett be let go by Seattle, where he has been a fan favorite throughout his career, he will have a chance to land elsewhere, but the consensus is he will retire.

And on Twitter/X, the feeling was that Lockett is playing his last game, perhaps for Seattle and more likely in the NFL.
