Ex-Broncos head coach lands new job

Former Denver Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett has landed a new job in the NFL.

Hackett is being hired by the Arizona Cardinals to serve as their new offensive coordinator. Hackett had recently accepted a position as the Miami Dolphins’ quarterbacks coach, but is instead going to serve as the Cardinals’ OC, which is a promotion. Arizona just hired Mike LaFleur to serve as their head coach, and he hired Hackett to his staff.

Hackett has served as an offensive coordinator in the NFL several times previously. He had a two-year stint with the Buffalo Bills from 2013-2014, a three-year run with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2016-2018, and he served as the Green Bay Packers’ offensive coordinator from 2019-2021. Hackett’s success in Green Bay led him to be hired by the Broncos as their head coach, but that turned out to be a disaster. Hackett often looked overmatched, and he was fired amid a 4-11 start to his first season.

After being fired by the Broncos, Hackett served as the New York Jets’ offensive coordinator for two seasons. Last season he was a defensive analyst for the Green Bay Packers.

Hackett has a relationship with the LaFleur brothers, which likely led him to get hired in Arizona by Mike LaFleur. Matt LaFleur was the head coach in Green Bay who hired Hackett to join his staff in 2019.
