Ex Commanders Defensive Back Interviewing with 49ers
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Commanders enjoyed the most successful season in decades during the 2024 campaign, watching rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels lead the team to the NFC Championship Game. Washington ultimately fell short to the Philadelphia Eagles, yet the defeat did not take away from what appears to be a turning point for the franchise.

But preceding this turnaround, the Commanders went through years of struggles back when the franchise was known as the "Redskins."

In that time they had several players who carried the torch through some dark years. On the defensive side, cornerback DeAngelo Hall was one of those players. Hall played 14 seasons, spending nine with Washington.

Hall retired in 2017 and broke into the NFL coaching world in 2023 as an assistant defensive backs coach with the Carolina Panthers. Now, Hall is looking to make his move up the next rung on the ladder.

The San Francisco 49ers are bringing in Hall for an interview for their defensive backs coach vacancy, NFL media's Mike Garafolo reported Friday. As Garafolo mentions, Hall and the Panthers parted ways in hopes that he could pursue roles as a primary position coach.

San Francisco welcomed back Robert Saleh as their defensive coordinator last week after several teams had shown interest in Saleh for head coaching positions. For Hall, a spot on this staff would be a significant boost as he tries to solidify himself in the professional ranks.

While Hall's coaching resumé may not be too extensive at this point, his on-field work tracks well. Hall earned three Pro Bowl selections and holds the league record with four interceptions in one half.
