Ex Cowboy Questions New Receiver Duo For One Reason

FRISCO — The Dallas Cowboys had a decent offseason through the month of April, coming away with steady free agency decisions and a potentially impactful rookie class from the NFL Draft. One move after those periods tipped the scales more in their favor.

Dallas still needed an upgrade at receiver and did more than that in trading for George Pickens. The three-year pro was the No. 1 in the Pittsburgh Steelers offense and now steps into a much different situation with the Cowboys.

Both in production and personality, Lamb and Pickens are alpha No. 1 receivers by trade. The talent the Cowboys now possess at the position is undeniable, but fans wonder how they will blend the two personalities together.

Lamb seems unphased by the matter, positing that the Cowboys now have two No. 1's instead of an A and a B option. Yet, there are doubters including Keyshawn Johnson who have expressed concern about that claim working out on the field.

"You don't want (Pickens) feeling like, everything is going through CeeDee Lamb even though, everything is going through CeeDee Lamb. That's just the pecking order, that's the money, the money speaks. It says, hey, (Lamb) is our number one guy...CeeDee Lamb is the number one option. "

Money is certainly capable of causing a rift in situations like these. But there are a couple reasons why that will not be the root source of any conflict here.

First, Pickens has chosen to play out this year and gamble on himself to make a bigger bag a year from now. Any extension or new contract will likely not measure up to the figures Lamb has earned, but the significant salary differences between Pickens and his new parter are of his own doing.

Above that though the two have styles that complement each other. Lamb operates out of the slot as an elusive short-yardage yet explosive threat. Meanwhile, Pickens has more of a capacity to win one-on-one downfield and shines in contested catch situations.

It's a natural fit between the two at least on paper. And for the time being, Lamb and Pickens are both committed to making this new partnership work on the field too.
