Former New York Jets first-round draft pick Darron Lee has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office in Tennessee.

The 31-year-old Lee, who was selected 20th overall by the Jets in the 2016 NFL Draft after a standout career at Ohio State — where he earned defensive MVP honors in the 2015 Sugar Bowl — was arrested Thursday at a residence in Ooltewah, near Chattanooga.

Deputies responded to a report of CPR in progress at the home on Snow Cone Way, close to Ooltewah Elementary School. First responders found the female victim deceased despite life-saving efforts, with preliminary investigations determining the death a homicide.

Lee was taken into custody at the scene. He faces additional charges of tampering with evidence, with more possible charges as the probe continues. Alcohol, narcotics, and a firearm were reportedly found in the residence. Lee is held without bond, with a court appearance scheduled for February 11.

The victim’s identity remains withheld pending family notification.

Lee, who played five NFL seasons — including stints with the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills and Las Vegas Raiders — has a prior 2023 arrest in Ohio for assault and domestic violence.

This tragic incident marks a stark fall for the once-promising linebacker.
