Ex-Steelers receiver lands Colts workout

The Pittsburgh Steelers are operating under a new mantra with head coach Mike McCarthy. Yet one former Steelers wideout is seeking a new home via NFL Free Agency. Now the Indianapolis Colts handed Chase Claypool a workout opportunity Thursday.

Claypool ran routes and held a private workout with the franchise, per the league’s wavier wire. It’s Claypool’s latest attempt to latch onto an NFL roster in what’s become a career downturn.

Pittsburgh handed the Notre Dame star his NFL chance as a second rounder in the 2020 draft. He sparked early in catching 62 passes for 873 yards and scoring nine touchdowns as a rookie. That production came during a time Ben Roethlisberger led the offense behind center. Claypool added a second 800-yard season in 2021, settling for 860 but scoring only two touchdowns.

The Chicago Bears grabbed him in a 2022 midseason trade, though. Yet he only caught 14 passes for 140 yards in the Windy City. He’s since struggled with staying on the field, earning no more than two starts since that trade.

Claypool claimed in 2025 that injuries started to rob him of his potential. Including saying he tore a ligament in his left big toe while with the Buffalo Bills.

“I am back to being the strongest and fastest I’ve ever been and couldn’t be more excited to step back out on the field and let my actions speak for themselves,” Claypool said in his Instagram post.

So Claypool is attempting one more league comeback. But the Colts become his fifth NFL stop since 2022 if Indy chooses to bring him in.
