Experience leads the way at receiver for Packers

Green Bay fans got a glimpse at how the Packers view their position groups this week with the release of an "unofficial" depth chart. At receiver, the team has a good mix of youth and experience. For now, coach Matt LaFleur is leaning toward experience at the top of the receiver depth chart. The top three are veterans Allen Lazard, Randall Cobb and free-agent addition Sammy Watkins

Lazard is entering his fifth NFL season (all with Green Bay) and is expected to fill the No. 1 receiver role. Cobb, who's entering his 12th NFL season (10th with Green Bay), is quarterback Aaron Rodgers' most trusted option from the slot.

Watkins is entering his ninth NFL season and first with the Packers. He is looking to reinvent himself with his new team as he rejoins LaFleur (his co-offensive coordinator with the Rams in 2018) and wide receivers coach Jason Vrable, who coached Watkins in Buffalo as an offensive assistant from 2014-2016.

Following them are rookies Romeo Doubs and Christian Watson, who is working his way back from the PUP list. They provide depth and playmaking ability. Doubs, per the Associated Press, earned praise from Rodgers recently:

"Every single day, there's been at least one 'wow' play from him. That's kind of rare for a young guy like that. Now, we've had some guys over the years do that, but they're all in the top 10 in Packers receiving history."

Second-year receiver Amari Rodgers and fourth-year receiver Juwann Winfree will also be looking to compete for snaps.

In Week 1 of the preseason on Friday, Green Bay will play at the San Francisco 49ers.
