The Atlanta Falcons were one of several franchises that missed out on winning the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes when he waived his no-trade clause to join the Cleveland Browns in March.
Atlanta ended an era by trading former NFL Most Valuable Player Matt Ryan to the Indianapolis Colts, and the Falcons then signed 2015 second-overall draft pick Marcus Mariota.
Mariota is atop the Atlanta depth chart roughly 48 hours before the 2022 NFL Draft gets underway on Thursday evening, but general manager Terry Fontenot vowed last month he would "continue to add to" the club's quarterback room.
The Falcons currently own the eighth overall pick in the draft, and Fontenot suggested when speaking with reporters on Tuesday that he will have another signal-caller on his roster before the player-selection process ends on Saturday.
"We could come out of this draft with a quarterback. We want to add to that room," he explained, according to Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.
In a mock draft updated earlier on Tuesday, Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports predicted Atlanta will take Liberty Flames product Malik Willis with selection No. 8. It's unclear if the Falcons are among teams allegedly waiting to see if the Browns will cut former starter Baker Mayfield if they don't find a trade partner for his services before the draft finishes.
