The Atlanta Falcons went 8-9 during the 2025 NFL season, missing the playoffs for the eighth straight year. It led the organization to several changes, including the hiring of new head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Atlanta also opted to shake up the quarterback room. After releasing veteran Kirk Cousins, the team signed former Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Last season, he threw for 2,660 yards, 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. With 76 career starts, the 28-year-old is on a one-year deal and expected to add competition for Michael Penix Jr.
While Tagovailoa adds an experienced piece to the group, general manager Ian Cunningham wasn't done with the position after that.
The Denver Broncos selected Trevor Siemian with the No. 250 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. He spent three years in Denver, even winning Super Bowl 50 as the backup to Peyton Manning, before being traded to the Minnesota Vikings before the 2018 season.
After not seeing any playing time, he signed a one-year deal with the New York Jets in 2019, attempting just six passes the entire season. He continued to bounce around the league, making stops with the Tennessee Titans, New Orleans Saints, Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Bengals and even returning to the Jets.
The former Northwestern Wildcat once again landed with the Titans before the 2024 season, where he spent the last two years moving between the active roster and practice squad. His last in-game action came with the Jets in 2023. Siemian made five appearances, throwing for 724 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions.
He has once again found a new home. On Tuesday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that Siemian has signed with the Falcons.

Veteran QB adds to Atlanta’s depth.
He now joins Tagovailoa and Penix as the only quarterbacks the Falcons have set to be under contract entering the 2026 season. While he may not get the opportunity to compete for the starting job, Siemian is an experienced backup with 33 starts under his belt.
