The Atlanta Falcons made a surprising roster move on Tuesday ahead of their Week 7 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
According to ESPN's Michael Rothstein, the team released their former 2020 fourth-round pick in safety Jaylinn Hawkins.
The Falcons have waived S Jaylinn Hawkins, according to the transaction wire.

Hawkins, 26, had appeared in all six games for Atlanta thus far but his role was limited due to the offseason addition of Jessie Bates III. Still, he remained a solid depth piece and worthy special teamer, which is why it comes as quite a surprise.
In less than three seasons with the Falcons, Hawkins saw action in 48 total games for Atlanta, logging 124 tackles, nine passes defended and four interceptions.
By cutting Hawkins, the Falcons now have roughly $7.6 million to make another move, per Over The Cap.
Rothstein also noted that with the release of Hawkins, Matt Hennessy remains the only player left from when Arthur Smith and Terry Fontenot took over in 2021 that has not been released or extended.
Hawkins should have no problem finding a new home as several teams look for secondary help, including the Philadelphia Eagles who already recently signed a well-known former Falcon.
