The Falcons have an explosive offense, but they are still young and trying to find their footing to be a consistent winner in the NFL. Bijan Robinson knows that the offense runs through him, and finishing fourth last year in yards from scrimmage wasn't good enough for the workhorse back.
Even though Robinson would have a great year with 1,456 yards and 14 touchdowns, he felt that something was still missing, and there is always room for improvement. For his career, it is quite a surprise that Robinson only has four plays where he would eclipse 30 yards on a rush or after a reception.
Even though Robinson is considered an iron man/workhorse type of back seldom seen in the NFL anymore, he knows that bigger plays will result in bigger wins. Robinson is ready to take the lead, and Tyler Allgeier complements him well out of the backfield.
We're done with 30-yard runs and all that stuff," Robinson stated at OTAs. "Now it's time to get those 60 yards, 50 yards. So, I've been doing a lot more explosive drills. I've been doing a lot more running 100 yards, like sprinting, so we can be prepared for, god willing, when those moments come in all the games."
Robinson is among the best in the league at making the first defender miss. He would also speak on that during OTAs, saying, "I work on it every single day. Obviously, the explosives, we always want them. We've added so many things to this offense so we can create more explosives. And, for me, sometimes it's that one defender, but now that's all. That's what I've been working on all offseason, just seeing that free hitter and making moves off him."
Looking to Saquon Barkley for inspiration on chunk plays, and his ability to get a few every game, Robinson would say, "We all want it. We're all waiting for that Saquon type of season when it comes to explosives, but I've been working on it a lot this offseason. And, obviously, when it gets to the season, it's time to go show it and go do the work the right way.”
This year, Atlanta should be much improved with a deep, wide receiver room and a dynamic backfield. Bijan Robinson will look to get to that rare 2,000-yard mark on the season to help propel Atlanta to the top of the NFC South.
