According to Tom Pelissero, the Falcons have requested to interview Bears assistant GM Ian Cunningham for their vacant general manager position.
Cunningham has been in the running for several general manager positions in recent years, and with the Bears’ success this season, it’s no surprise he’s once again a hot candidate this time of year. Pelissero also notes that current Bears GM Ryan Poles played college football with Matt Ryan at Boston College. While nothing has been announced publicly yet, several reports have suggested that Ryan’s voice is already being heard inside the building during this process.
Cunningham has been around football operations since 2008, when he was a personal assistant with the Baltimore Ravens. He worked with the Eagles from 2017–2021, becoming the director of player personnel in his final season in Philadelphia before leaving for the assistant general manager position in Chicago in 2022, where he has been for the last four seasons.
Just 40 years old, Cunningham is one of the brightest young executive names to watch moving forward, having worked under some of the best football minds of the past and present in Ozzie Newsome and Howie Roseman. He should be viewed as a very strong early candidate for the Atlanta Falcons general manager position.
