Falcons Set to Interview Dolphins DC Soon

There appears to be a real possibility that, on top of their currently vacant head coach and general manager positions, the Miami Dolphins will be in need of a defensive coordinator this offseason. Miami’s defensive coordinator in each of the last two seasons, Anthony Weaver, is a candidate for the Atlanta Falcons’ head-coaching opening, and he’s set to sit down for an interview with the organization on Saturday.

Apparently, Weaver is one of the folks in play to become the Falcons’ newest leader from the sidelines. While he has yet to serve as a head coach at the highest level, he still boasts extensive experience in the league’s coaching ranks.

He’s worn a number of hats outside of just being a defensive coordinator, from assistant defensive line coach to defensive line coach to assistant coach. Weaver got his start as an NFL coach as an assistant defensive line coach for the New York Jets way back in the 2012 campaign and has been coaching in the league ever since.

If Weaver does end up winning the sweepstakes for Atlanta’s head-coaching gig, his tenure as the Dolphins’ defensive coordinator will be remembered as a mixed bag. In his maiden season succeeding Vic Fangio in Miami, the Dolphins’ defensive unit ranked in the top ten in the NFL in both yards and points allowed per game. While it’s true that the Dolphins lost a lot of their better defensive players ahead of the 2025 season, they did a whole lot worse job at making life difficult for offenses this season. Miami’s defense ranked 24th in the NFL in points allowed per contest and 22nd in yards relinquished per game.

If Dolphins fans should keep tabs on any coaching search outside of Miami, it’s Atlanta’s simply because the Falcons might just poach the team’s defensive coordinator.
