Falcons sign WR Tajae Sharpe amid Julio Jones trade rumors

The Atlanta Falcons made news Monday via a transaction involving a veteran wide receiver, but it isn't the headline most would expect.

ESPN's Field Yates reports that receiver Tajae Sharpe has signed with the Falcons. Sharpe previously played under Arthur Smith when the Atlanta head coach was serving as Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator, and the 26-year-old spent time with the Minnesota Vikings last season but didn't record a single catch.

The Kansas City Chiefs released Sharpe last week.

Tennessee drafted Sharpe in 2016. He's tallied 92 receptions for 1,167 yards and eight touchdowns as a pro.

The news comes after All-Pro receiver Julio Jones told Fox Sports 1's Shannon Sharpe on Monday morning he's "out of" Atlanta amid rumors that the Falcons want a first- or second-round draft pick in a trade involving Jones. It's since been reported that Jones first requested a trade from the Falcons several months ago.

He's been linked with the New England Patriots, among other teams, in rumors.
