A number of NFL teams announced their team captains for the 2026 season, and that list included the Atlanta Falcons. Their list, however, included one notable omission.
The Falcons’ list of five captains does not include any quarterbacks. This is a rarity, as teams that name captains almost always include a quarterback in the group.
Instead, the Falcons’ offense will be represented by running back Bijan Robinson and offensive lineman Chris Lindstrom.

This may be the clearest signal yet of just how bizarre the Falcons’ quarterback situation is. For much of the offseason, Tua Tagovailoa was viewed as the likely Week 1 starter , if only because Michael Penix Jr. was still recovering from the ACL tear he suffered last November. Penix has since been cleared to practice, however, and Tagovailoa did little to impress during preseason action.
The Falcons are the only remaining team that has not named a Week 1 quarterback. It doesn’t help that their two options might not even be seeing eye-to-eye, either.
