Fantasy ballers: Three WRs who will exceed their Week 6 projections

Two veteran wide receivers and a promising rookie are set to outperform their Week 6 projections in fantasy football.

Adam Thielen (WR) Carolina Panthers

After starting 2023 with a two-catch, 12-yard performance against the Atlanta Falcons, Thielen has been on a tear. He’s scored three times, averaging 95.5 yards and 23.7 fantasy points per game in his last four contests.

His 27.7 fantasy points in Week 5 were fourth-most among wide receivers in Yahoo leagues, but in Week 6 he’s projected to finish 25th with just 13.03 fantasy points. That’s a low number for Carolina’s leading receiver, especially against a Miami Dolphins team likely to put up big numbers against the Panthers.

 DeVonta Smith (WR) Philadelphia Eagles

Want to know who’s going to have a big game for the Eagles any given week? Just find a player that had a down game the week before.

Against Washington in Week 4, tight end Dallas Goedert had just two catches for 25 yards. In Week 5, Goedert had eight catches for 117 yards and a touchdown. A.J. Brown went over 100 yards for the third straight week against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, but only after a quiet four-catch, 29-yard performance against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2.

Smith had a single catch for five yards in the team's win over the Rams, his worst performance since being shutout in last year’s season opener. A week later, he led the team with seven targets.

With New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner expected to cover Brown this week, count on Hurts to get Smith the ball and to top his projected 14.7 fantasy points.

Jordan Addison (WR) Minnesota Vikings

According to Alec Lewis of The Athletic, Addison was limited in practice Wednesday due to an ankle injury. Assuming he can play on Sunday, the rookie receiver has an opportunity to make some noise against the Chicago Bears and beat his 13.4-point projection.

Now that All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson is on the IR with a hamstring injury, Addison and fellow receiver K.J. Osborn must pick up the slack for the NFL’s third leading receiver. Osborn has 1,471 yards and 14 touchdowns in three years with the team, but Minnesota knows what they have with their former fifth-round pick.

In five games working behind Jefferson and Osborn this year, Addison has 19 catches on 29 targets for 249 yards and three scores. With just one win after a month-plus of action and Jefferson out for a month, Minnesota has every reason to feed the ball to their first-round draft pick.
