Some fantasy football owners may have to call audibles based on Week 15 injuries or simply tough Week 16 matchups. With a crucial week ahead that determines a fantasy championship berth for many, here is this week’s start-or-sit list.
To steal a basketball term, Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett has become a walking 20 points in fantasy football. Brissett has essentially thrown for at least 250 yards and two touchdowns in eight of his nine starts (249 to be exact last week). In the one start that he failed to throw multiple TDs, Brissett still had 317 yards through the air.
Even against the Houston Texans’ number one scoring defense, Brissett was able to find the end zone three times through the air. Now granted, two of those were in garbage time, but in fantasy football, points are points! Against a somewhat banged-up Atlanta Falcons defense that has surrendered 27 or more points in three straight games, expect the 20-point streak to continue for Brissett.
With Marvin Harrison Jr. in and out of the lineup, Cardinals third-year man Michael Wilson has emerged as Brissett’s favorite target. Wilson has seen double-digit targets in four of his last five outings, which has led to 107 receiving yards per game during that span.
Even with Harrison potentially returning this week, there should still be enough targets to go around in this pass-heavy offense. Brissett has thrown at least 40 passes in six consecutive games, which is mainly because Arizona is usually playing from behind. In a game where the Cardinals are yet again underdogs, they will probably continue leaning heavily on the passing game. Wilson will likely see plenty of looks again, and it should lead to another solid fantasy outing.
The Indianapolis Colts’ offense has been spiraling downward since returning from the Week 11 bye. The squad has scored under 20 points in three straight contests, and rookie tight end Tyler Warren has become an afterthought. After a promising start to his young career, Warren has been held under 30 receiving yards for three games in a row.
With 44-year-old Philip Rivers slated to make his second start since ending his retirement last week, there is no reason to believe in this passing offense. Rivers had not played NFL football in five years, and it showed. The rust will likely remain for the remainder of his tenure, which does not bode well for Warren this week or the rest of the season.
Washington Commanders running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt had his best game in over two months last week. The rookie out of Arizona rushed for 96 yards on 18 carries and added a TD in the process. That performance was probably an anomaly, however, as the New York Giants have let any and everybody run over them all season.
Running back Chris Rodriguez will also return to the lineup after missing last week’s contest with a groin injury. This likely means the Commanders will return to using three backs, which could make it difficult for the man they call Bill to see double-digit touches.
While it has been a rollercoaster season for Bryce Young, it seems as though he is finally to the point where the bottom does not completely fall out. Young did not exactly light the world on fire in Week 15, but with 212 total yards and a touchdown, the outing was solid overall.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are up next for the Carolina Panthers in a battle for the NFC South division lead. The Bucs have allowed the third-most passing yards and fifth-most fantasy points to QBs this year. This game could be an ideal spot for Young to have another three TD game, which he has accomplished in two of his last four outings.
New England Patriots WR Stefon Diggs has virtually disappeared over the last three weeks. After that nine-catch, 105-yard outing against the New York Jets in Week 11, Diggs has a total of six catches for 72 yards combined in his last three games. Two of those three games were against bottom-ten pass defenses, making the numbers for the veteran wideout that much more disappointing.
Diggs has been the third option at best recently, as QB Drake Maye has started targeting the likes of Hunter Henry, Mack Hollins, and Kayshon Boutte more frequently. Many fantasy owners are holding out hope, as Diggs remains rostered in almost 90 percent of leagues. There is just too much inconsistency, however, to trust him down the stretch of the fantasy football season.
It is do-or-die time in fantasy football. The time for giving players a second or third chance has to be over, as that loyalty can cost you your season. That could also mean rolling with guys who are not the biggest stars, but have clearly shown they deserve a spot in the lineup. Simply put, pay attention to what is right in front of you! That may be all that is necessary to move on to the fantasy championship game.
