A tough week for the Ohio State football program got even tougher with the recent passing of one of the school's former standout players — who also happens to be the father of a current Buckeyes quarterback.
As Ohio State mourns the loss of ex All-American Nick Mangold, who went on to have a Pro Bowl-level career at the NFL level, another past OSU offensive lineman has also lost his life, per reports.
According to Eleven Warriors, former Bucks offensive lineman Bob Maggs died at the age of 61 last Thursday. He was a two-time All-Big Ten honoree in the mid-'80s.
Per 11W, Maggs died on Oct. 23. He was twice selected first-team all-conference in the B1G and was also named a Parade All-American as a high schooler coming out of Cardinal Mooney in Youngstown.
Maggs helped lead Ohio State to 9-3 and 10-3 seasons in his two best years before going on to work in sales in his post-football career. Bob's son, Mason, is also a walk-on quarterback at his alma mater and the ex-OSU center was known as a “Gentle Giant” by all who loved him.
Maggs' death is obviously a terrible, terrible loss — and it also wasn't the only one for the folks in Columbus.

Ex-OSU center Nick Mangold also lost his life over the weekend after complications from kidney failure. The former first-round pick had recently reached out to the Jets franchise in search of a possible donor but it was too late and he passed away not longer after.
Mangold was a seven-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro across his 11 professional seasons in New York after legendary run with the Buckeyes from 2002-2005.
Both he and Maggs will be sorely missed by all who knew them and we certainly send our condolences to those affected by their respective passings.
