Felony DWI trial for Britt Reid scheduled to start April 18

Former Kansas City Chiefs outside linebackers coach and assistant Britt Reid pleaded not guilty in June to a felony driving while intoxicated charge related to the car accident that occurred this past Feb. 4 and shortly before Kansas City faced the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV.

According to Reuters (h/t ESPN), the trial regarding the case is scheduled to begin April 18.

Reid was allegedly driving nearly 84 mph just seconds before he wrecked into two vehicles on an Interstate 435 on-ramp. A five-year-old girl was left with a severe brain injury, and a second child was hurt in the incident. Prosecutors say Reid's blood alcohol content was measured at .113, over the 0.08 legal limit.

Reid, the son of Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, could face a jail sentence of one to seven years if found guilty.

The Chiefs placed Britt Reid on administrative leave shortly after the Super Bowl, and he didn't travel with the team for the championship game. Kansas City ultimately let his contract expire, and he currently is not associated with any other club.

Reid could later be suspended under the NFL's personal conduct policy if he joins a coaching staff following the trial.
