LAS VEGAS — The countdown is on. With just weeks remaining until the 2026 NFL Draft, the Las Vegas Raiders appear to be zeroing in on their future franchise quarterback and all signs point to Fernando Mendoza.
According to NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah, Mendoza is already taking steps that suggest he’s preparing to be the top pick. “Fernando Mendoza is working with Brian Griese right now… they’re installing the Raiders’ offense,” Jeremiah said during an appearance on the The Pat McAfee Show.
That’s not typical pre-draft prep. That’s franchise quarterback preparation. Mendoza isn’t just refining mechanics he’s diving into scheme. Working alongside Brian Griese, the focus has been:
Jeremiah compared the approach to how Joe Burrow prepared before entering the NFL using pre-draft time to accelerate the transition.
The move makes even more sense given the coaching ties. Griese previously worked with Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak during their time together with the San Francisco 49ers in 2023. That shared system could give Mendoza a major head start.

If there was any doubt about the Raiders’ direction, the odds erase it. Mendoza is currently listed at: -10000 to be the No. 1 overall pick In betting terms, that’s as close to a lock as it gets.
Fernando Mendoza isn’t just the favorite to go No. 1. He’s already acting like it. Learning the playbook. Working with trusted coaches. Preparing for Day 1. And if everything continues on this path…The Raiders’ future at quarterback may already be in motion.
