Field Yates says this Chiefs player is being wildly undervalued in fantasy

With fantasy football draft season heating up, ESPN insider Field Yates recently joined our own Patrick Allen to share his insights about the upcoming season. The entire interview is a great listen to sharpen your fantasy senses, but he had some interesting things to say about the Chiefs roster specifically.

Yates was asked about the best Chiefs players to target in 2025, and he was crystal clear about one particular pick that would provide the "best value": running back Isiah Pacheco.

"The best value is Isiah Pacheco, and you could tell me I'm crazy," said Yates. "I mean, I have no idea what's going on at training camp right now, but it doesn't sound like Isiah Pacheco is being challenged to the point that we expect this to be like a 40-40-20 timeshare between [him] and maybe Kareem Hunt, maybe Brashard Smith."

Pacheco’s status as the team’s top back comes after a somewhat uneven 2024 campaign. A fractured fibula suffered against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2 shelved him early, and upon his return, Pacheco struggled to return to form. He finished with 787 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns in 12 games.

"I definitely think that Hunt will have something of a role, and Prashard Smith could have something of a role," Yates continued, "but Pacheco at this time last year was going as like a top 15 player in drafts, and you're sitting there saying to yourself a year later, I know he didn't look great coming off the injury last season. That being said, the guy is so talented. He runs so hard in this team."

For fantasy managers looking to find value in a loaded Chiefs offense, Yates says don’t overthink it.

"They want to be explosive on offense. Well, A, he's way more explosive than Kareem Hunt, and B, in order to have explosive plays in the passing game, you do have to have some semblance of a running game, so Isaiah Pacheco would be my favorite value amongst Chiefs players."
