The Detroit Lions will be reporting to training camp in less than two weeks. We are 12 days away. Since it's the Fourth of July and most people have the day off, here's some reading for you. Our final practice squad prediction ahead of training camp.
-
QB Hendon Hooker: A few things on this one. I picked Kyle Allen to make the 53-man roster because of the experience he brings. I'm not really sure where this battle goes right now. Ther'es a solid shot that if the Liosn did cut Hooker, that he would get claimed.
-
RB Craig Reynolds: The Lions move forward with Sione Vaki and look towards the future of their backfield. That does not mean that Reynolds is a guy that you don't want to have around. You do want him around.
-
WR Tom Kennedy: The Lions are legally required to have Kennedy on their practice squad.
-
WR Dominic Lovett: At the end of the day, I think there's a future for him, but I think that future doesn't happen until Kalif Raymond and Khalil Dorsey aren't holding down the special teams spots that he would be great in.
-
TE Shane Zylstra: Zylstra is a solid receiving tight end, but the Lions have their guy who can do that really well in Sam LaPorta. The Lions need blocking, and there are other guys who bring that more than he does.
-
OL Kayode Awosika: Awosika is a good interior guy to have around. We know that he can start in a pinch, and we know that he can rotate in when needed. He's a guy whose elevations could happen fast.
-
OL Trystan Colon: A guard with starting ability, but the Lions' line is just too deep to have him on the 53-man roster right now. It helps that he can also play center.
-
OT Mason Miller: I think this guy could be a lot like Connor Galvin was the last two years. A guy who can show some real flashes in the summer, but needs time to marinate. Hopefully, he can stay healthy. Galvin struggled there.
-
Edge Al-Quadin Muhammad: A key veteran on this practice squad. If injuries occur, the Lions will be happy he's around.
-
Edge Mitchell Agude: I think this guy could really come along and find a way to make the 53-man roster. But right now I have to go with some other guys.
-
DL Pat O'Connor: He really helped out a lot on the interior last year. It's hard to find a spot for him on the 53-man roster, but this is good veteran depth to have around.
-
Edge Isaac Ukwu: I went back and forth with a few other guys, but he had such a good summer last year. I'm curious to see if he can do it again.
-
LB Anthony Pittman: Grant Stuard is now in the Jalen Reeves-Maybin spot on special teams. Pittman is a good guy to back him up.
-
S Loren Strickland: Really showed good special-teams stuff last year. I had to go with Morcie Norris over him on the 53 because he's a lot more versatile.
-
S Ian Kennelly: Going out on a limb with this one. Of all players out there, Kennelly might have the hardest road because he might be the 91st man on this roster. I think he shows enough to earn a spot.
-
LB Ezekiel Turner: Another solid veteran linebacker helping out.
