Finally: Steelers And Legendary QB Aaron Rodgers Officially Joining Forces In 2025

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been the talk of the NFL town throughout the 2025 offseason. As the legal tampering period began before the new league year, the organization still did not have a starting quarterback under contract for the 2025 campaign. Justin Fields and Russell Wilson were the front-runners originally, but as time passed, it was clear that the duo would be free to test the market. News broke that the franchise could also have some interest in former New York Jets signal-caller, Aaron Rodgers. Now, after months of speculation, that partnership has become a reality, at long last.

With the new league year finally commencing back in March and the Jets designating Rodgers as a post-June 1st release, he was free to sign with any team. After it was dragged for quite a bit of time, it has finally been reported that the Steelers will be bringing Rodgers in to be the team's starting quarterback.

Rodgers tore his Achilles in the first game of the 2023 season and has not been fully himself since. He started to play better towards the end of the 2024 campaign, which is an important fact to note as he plans to head to the Steel City. While he is 41 years old, his arm strength looked fine coming off of the injury. It will be an important offseason for the quarterback to make sure he is 100% healthy.

Pittsburgh has had quarterback inconsistencies ever since Ben Roethlisberger retired after the 2021 season. While Rodgers won't be looked at as a long-term option, the offense suddenly has some more experience and talent to it. The additions of Rodgers and DK Metcalf will bring some significant excitement to the fan base. Utilizing the new players properly will be pivotal moving forward.

There will be plenty of strong opinions regarding the signing, but it's impossible to ignore the fact that the Steelers absolutely do believe that they are in win-now mode. There is no reason to sign a 41-year-old signal-caller if the belief internally is that a rebuild is necessarily. Rodgers defeated Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XLV as a member of the Green Bay Packers, but he could make it up to the Steel City by bringing a championship trophy back to the Steelers' building soon.

The Steelers will have to prioritize the offensive line throughout the offseason as the development of several young starters will be imperative. Rodgers is not as mobile as he once was, so it will be crucial to make sure that the big men up front are performing consistently and effectively. It's clear, overall, that General Manager Omar Khan wanted to set the offense up for success. It is already starting to look completely revamped.

Steelers Hoping To Help Rodgers Retire After A Super Bowl Championship

Pittsburgh is a very popular place to play specifically because of the history of the organization. Rodgers only has one Super Bowl ring and there's no doubt that he will want to chase another one prior to his retirement. He could absolutely do that in the Steel City if the offense continues to be upgraded and an aging defense can remain healthy moving forward.

Are you happy that the Steelers are expected to sign Rodgers in free agency?
