First-round pick Xavier Worthy’s car stolen in Kansas City

Kansas City Chiefs first-round draft pick Xavier Worthy was the victim of a car theft on Wednesday night, the team revealed to PFT‘s Mike Florio. According to Florio’s sources, a “professional group of criminals” stole Worthy’s car from his apartment complex overnight in Kansas City. The former Texas star parked his car in the garage as usual, but when he awoke, his car was gone.

The Kansas City Star reported last month that motor vehicle theft has been on the rise in the Missouri city over the past five years. According to KCPD annual crime reports data, there were 7,471 vehicle theft incidents in 2023. Worthy is just the latest victim. Florio’s source claimed that the car theft was perpetrated by a group that “knew exactly what they were doing.”

Luckily, Worthy wasn’t present during the car theft and no one was injured.

Worthy receiving praise after rookie minicamp with Chiefs

Worthy, who broke the 40-yard dash record at the NFL Combine in February, clocking in at a blazing 4.21 seconds, went in the first round to the Chiefs as the fifth wide receiver off the board. They picked him with the No. 28 overall pick after trading up to get him. According to NFL insiders, Worthy is already receiving rave reviews from the Chiefs.

“I’m told that he’s off to a great start with Kansas City,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said on SportsCenter on Sunday morning. “The people I’ve talked to that are in the building saying that he’s soaking up the playbook. Really good football character so far, so much more than just the speed guy. They tried to recruit for agent Zay Jones, he went to Arizona instead. So the fact that he’s off to a good start helps them on the depth front at wide receiver.”

Worthy’s “good football character” is a good sign for the Chiefs. They’ve had some bad press recently with Rashee Rice‘s arrest. Rice is expected to miss games during the 2024 season due to suspension from the league, though no punishment has been instituted yet.

Worthy made his debut in rookie minicamp this past week where he has seen work out wide and on special teams. His speed makes him a threat as a returner and is an easy way to put the ball in his hands. After all, he was a 1,000-yard receiver for the Longhorns last season and has a knack for finding the end zone with 26 career touchdowns.
