First touchdown scorer betting options for Super Bowl LVI

If you're looking for a prop bet for the Super Bowl that has the potential for instant gratification, you won't find something much more instant than a bet on the first scorer.

First touchdown bets offer you great odds to correctly predict which player scores first, as you likely guessed from its name.

As we get prepared for the Rams and Bengals to take the field on Sunday, let's peruse the offering for first touchdown bets and find ourselves the best option for each team.

How to Approach First Touchdown Betting

There isn't necessarily a ton of science or data involved with a bet like this, as one of the main factors is very likely the coin toss.

That isn't to say whoever gets the ball first is going to drive down the field and score, but it doesn't hurt their chances.

When looking at these two teams first quarter scoring in the playoffs, both teams are averaging solid scoring out the gates.

The Bengals are averaging 6.3 points scored in their last three first quarters, while the Rams aren't far behind at a 5.7 average.

The biggest difference between these two teams is touchdowns per game. Cincinnati has had drives stall out this postseason, which explains why Evan McPherson has had so much success lately.

The Bengals are averaging 1.7 touchdowns per game in their three playoff games, while Los Angeles is averaging 3.0.

First Touchdown Bets

At these odds, we'll take a chance on one player from each team.

Sony Michel: +1600 (DraftKings)

After some digging, I think Michel offers very solid value to score a touchdown on Sunday, currently at +240 on most major sportsbooks.

Here we take a flier on him being the first to find pay-dirt at +1600 odds.

While Cam Akers is getting the attention in this backfield, it should be noted he injured himself in the NFC Championship Game and has been limited this week.

Michel is more of the bruiser and got four red zone carries in the Rams last game. While his role has diminished a bit since Akers returned, he's had a steady red zone role in this Los Angeles offense for the entire year.

If the Rams can get near the goal line first, Michel has as good of odds any to score first. Michel has five touchdowns this season.

The Bengals have allowed a running back to score a touchdown in four of their last six games.

Ja'Marr Chase: +800 (DraftKings)

This has nothing to do with numbers and everything to do with being a fan of a great story.

The championship connection that Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase bring with them from their LSU time together is such an awesome narrative that continues to grow.

This is a bet on a fireworks type play out the get-go.

The last time these two played in a Championship, Chase scored the first touchdown for LSU, a 52 yard bomb from Burrow.

They've done it before, why not on football's biggest stage?
