The Philadelphia Eagles are ready to begin their 2025 training camp and defend their Super Bowl titles.
There are plenty of storylines to follow from the young defense and how they will play, to Kevin Patullo taking over as the main play caller on offense. This team looks poised to return to the Super Bowl, as long as they can replicate the same kind of production from their younger players in 2025.
If fans are looking for five players to watch out for in training camp, there is plenty of star power and even some lesser-known players who can make an immediate impact this season. Which ones are the ones to watch that will make or break the Eagles?
The former first-round pick of the Washington Commanders three seasons ago was a massive bust for the Eagles last year, with under 20 receptions and zero touchdowns in the regular season. Dotson is feeling the pressure of this training camp after Philly declined his fifth-year option on his rookie deal. Eagles fans hope to see a massive boost from their young receiver as they need a number-three option for A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.
Mekhi Becton's departure from the Eagles during the offseason was a big blow to the best offensive line in the NFL. Some thought that Kenyon Green would come in and compete for the job after being traded by the Houston Texans, but it turns out that Tyler Steen will end up winning the job, as he took first-team reps in offseason workouts. If Steen can live up to his colleagues in Jordan Mailata, Lane Johnson, Cam Jurgens, and Landon Dickerson, the Eagles will be soaring once again in the running game and pass protection.
Dean's injury from the playoff win over the Green Bay Packers last year set his recovery time as an interesting storyline in the offseason. The Eagles are hoping he can return during training camp and show once again why he was a tackling machine and solid in coverage last year. He's about as talented as they get for a linebacker, and Philly needs him to get back on the field with Zack Baun and handle his business again.
The rookie second-round pick has high expectations going into his first NFL season, but it isn't known if he can beat out Tristin McCollum or Sydney Brown for the safety job. Mukuba was a third-team All-SEC selection last year at Texas, where he proved to be elite in coverage, recording five interceptions on the season. Eagles fans wouldn't mind seeing another rookie have a sensational first year in the NFL, similar to what happened with Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean last season.
After having a stellar postseason, everyone seems to have forgotten that Jake Elliott missed a staggering 77.8% of his field goals in 2024 and made just one of seven field goals from 50+ yards. If Elliott had had a bad postseason, he would have been cut in the offseason. The biggest question surrounding Elliott is whether he can bounce back in 2025 and return to his 2023 form, when he made over 93% of his kicks.
