Five possible trade destinations for Washington DT Daron Payne

The Washington Commanders are fielding calls on defensive tackle Daron Payne.

Payne has been a stalwart member of the Commanders' defensive front since being taken in the first round of the 2018 draft. With his contract just about up and Washington at 3-4, it's reasonable that he might head elsewhere after the season is over.

With a second-day pick a potential reward for moving Payne now, it'd make sense for Washing to see what it could get from a more contending team.

Here are five teams that would make sense for Payne before the Nov. 1 trade deadline.

Seattle Seahawks

The upstart Seahawks could use some youth on the interior of their defensive line, and Payne could ink a long-term deal as soon as he arrives. Seattle could use the extra run support and interior rushing in a division that just added Christian McCaffrey and has quarterbacks Kyler Murray and Matthew Stafford.

Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens are trying to rebound after what's been a lackluster start (sans Lamar Jackson), and they love former Alabama players. The team could use more oomph up front, and Payne would be a good building block for the future.

Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons cut Anthony Rush and have a need at nose tackle. Plus, former Washington front office exec Kyle Smith was part of the team that drafted Payne, so there would be familiarity there. The Falcons need all the help they can get on the defensive line and have ample cap space to make a deal work.

Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals are trying to make it back to the Super Bowl and could use more help along the defensive line. Payne could help steady some recent injuries to the defensive interior and add a key presence for a potential playoff run. In a playoffs with Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen, Cincy will have to get after the QB to contend. Payne can help.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers aren't great this year, but they have more on the horizon with a lot of young talent on the roster. The defense there has been a bit of a disappointment, but trading for Payne and inking him for the long haul could do a lot to give Chargers fans more hope for its defensive interior.
