Week Seven of the NFL schedule is upon us, which brings new fantasy football decisions for managers worldwide. This top-five list has a team decimated by injury, a player returning from injury, and emerging rookies. Fantasy stats and individual reports provided by Sleeper. All NFL stats and team rankings provided by Fox Sports.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are decimated by injuries, especially at the wide receiver position. Chris Godwin, Emeka Egbuka, Mike Evans, and Jalen McMillan have missed time and continue struggling to make the lineup. Quarterback Baker Mayfield hasn’t skipped a beat, leading the team to a 5-1 record atop the NFC South. Mayfield still boasts 21.06 fantasy-PPG after finding out that the door to the receiver room is revolving.
After playing no more than 11% of snaps in any game this season, Johnson capitalized on the increase to 49% in Week Six. Mayfield has carried the team to a top-ten passing and scoring offense going into Week Seven. The defense is allowing 26.4 PPG, so there’s plenty of passing opportunities ahead. This wideout should make rosters this week, and with four varying degrees of injury allowing him to play, it’s likely that all of them don’t return, or return at the same level.
Considering the Buccaneers lost their top four receivers, it’s no surprise to see a few fill-ins become fantasy relevant. Tampa Bay receiver Sterling Shepard is likely the shortest-term play of his teammates on this list. He’s in his tenth year, surrounded by up-and-coming talent, but he’s experienced enough to contribute now, and even more so in PPR leagues.
Wide receiver Tez Johnson has sneaky short- and long-term value. He immediately gets the same four receiver bump as K. Johnson above. He’s also a rookie with potential for increased snap percentages the longer he stays in Tampa Bay, considering the injured and aging group around him. The ceiling is apparent, but it should be a safe floor as the Buccaneers sort out their injury concerns. He could also be worth keeping until next season, if you are in a dynasty league.
Harold Fannin is a 241-pound rookie who’s averaging 9.97 fantasy-PPG in PPR. Who couldn’t use ten points at the bottom of the lineup? Dynasty and TEP leagues will eat this tight end up, if he’s even available. He’s building rapport with rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel over the last two games, and is the biggest beneficiary of a terrible offense that’s going to play smallball.
Carolina Panthers’ Wide Receiver Jalen Coker has been on the IR all season, but there’s finally good news around the second-year professional. Head coach Dave Canales reports he’s “really close” to return, and is practicing in full. While their WR1 is clear, Coker should have all the opportunity he could ask for to prove himself as high as WR2.
Whether a 1-5 team holding on for dear life, or a 6-0 squad trolling the league, waiver wire value is universal. With multiple players early in their careers, there are longer-term implications that may even benefit a team with no hope, moving forward.
