In the 2027 recruiting class, the early favorite to be the top quarterback in the country is Baton Rouge (La.) Dunham School superstar Elijah Haven. The 6-5, 215-pound signal caller is an outstanding combination of size, arm strength, athleticism, and upside.
Haven is so talented that he is already creating some lofty early comparisons. One player comparison that is out there, and makes a lot of sense, is former Texas All-American Vince Young, one of the more highly decorated quarterbacks in college football history. There are a lot of parallels between the two, including. Their strengths and weaknesses.
If you remember Young during his Longhorn career, he completely changed our expectations for dynamic signal callers on the college level. During his three years with the program, Young threw for 6,040 yards and 44 touchdowns. He also added another 3,127 yards and 37 touchdowns on the ground.
Like Young, Haven brings a longer frame with surprising speed for his size. He also is a bit of a rawer passer, but the upside is clearly there. The dual threat upside that Haven possesses is notable, and has colleges buzzing very early on.
On the 247Sports Composite ranking, Haven is currently rated as a five-star player. He is considered to be the No. 22 overall player, No. 1 quarterback, and No. 4 player in the state of Louisiana in the 2027 recruiting class. Rivals also has Haven rated as a five-star, currently sitting as the No. 2 overall player in the class.
The rising junior has also already been attracting the attention of several top programs early on. Some of his premier offers to date include Michigan, LSU, Ole Miss, Florida, Miami, Florida State, Auburn, Baylor, SMU, and Texas Tech among many others.
As a junior, Haven put together some dominant moments for Dunham School. In 10 games, he threw for 1,847 yards and 27 touchdowns, while completing over 65 percent of his passes and throwing just four interceptions. Haven also rushed for 429 yards and 12 touchdowns, averaging 5.8 yards per carry.
While the Longhorns haven’t offered yet, you can bet that they will sooner or later. If, and when they do, it’s going to be hard for Texas fans to know see the upside of Young with the Louisiana native. The talent is clearly there. If Haven continues to develop, he has a chance to be special.
