The Florida Gators have positioned themselves as serious contenders for the nation's top safety prospect, as five-star recruit Bralan Womack announced he will make his college commitment August 23 live on the 247Sports YouTube channel.
The 6-foot, 195-pound defensive standout from Flowood, Mississippi, named Florida alongside Auburn, Ohio State and, Texas A&M as his four finalists. Womack, ranked as the No. 1 safety and No. 12 overall player in the 2026 class by 247Sports, would be a program-defining addition for Billy Napier's defense.
Florida's pursuit of Womack has been a priority for co-defensive coordinator Will Harris, who has emphasized the Gators' need for an elite centerfielder in their secondary. Womack's versatility—capable of playing deep coverage, blitzing off the edge, and matching up in man coverage—makes him an ideal fit for Florida's evolving defensive scheme.
The Gators have ramped up their recruitment efforts in recent weeks, hosting Womack for an unofficial visit in March where he spent extensive time with Harris and Napier. Florida's pitch has centered on early playing time in a defense that produced first-round NFL Draft picks Kaiir Elam and C.J. Henderson in recent years.
Womack's decision timeline—set just before his senior season at Hartfield Academy—gives Florida several months to make their final push. The Gators currently have the No. 8 recruiting class in the 2026 cycle, per 247Sports, and landing Womack would provide a major boost as they look to rebuild their defensive backfield.
Should he choose Florida, Womack would join a program that has produced 11 defensive backs drafted since 2017, including three first-round selections. His commitment would also signal the Gators' continued recruiting resurgence in the SEC under Napier.
