Ford Field could break a world record on Sunday
David Reginek-USA TODAY Sports

The Detroit Lions will host a playoff game at Ford Field for the first time ever on Sunday night. This is a huge moment for the city of Detroit. Not just because the Lions are hosting there, but becasue they're hosting for the first time in 30 years. Some Lions fans have been waiting there entire lives for this moment. So Ford Field should be exactly what Lions head coach Dan Campbell thinks it will be.

“Yeah, I mean to me this is three years ago thinking about what this was going to be like and what it could be like and now it’s here. And so, I know exactly what it’s going to look like. I’ve seen it in my head. It’s going to be different than anybody’s seen. I think this is going to be one of the most electric environments, atmospheres that you’re going to find, and I think it’s going to be an advantage.”

It's easy to agree with what Campbell is saying there. This is going to be quite an insane environment and Lions fans are going to be super loud. Maybe even loud enough to set the world decibel record for sports stadiums.

That record is currently held by the Kansas City Chiefs and their fans. They set the record in 2016 with a decibel rate of 142.2 in a game against the Patriots. Lions fans have a very real chance to beat that.

Lions fans set the Ford Field record decibel record in Week 2 of this season with a decibel rate of 127.5. That was just a regular season game. This is the biggest game in the stadiums history and one of the biggest games in franchise history. A game, that I'll mention once again, that some Lions fans have been waiting their entire lives for. I really don't see how they can't get an extra 15 decibels to beat this thing in sold out stadium full of die hard fans.

We'll find out on Sunday. I'm looking forward to my iPhone sending me a health notification telling me that it's too loud where I'm at.
