The San Francisco 49ers elected to acquire Khalil Davis just ahead of the 2024 NFL trade deadline.
Their partnership wouldn't last long as they allowed him to hit free agency, but now the door is officially shut on a potential reunion for the 2025 season.
Free agent DT Khalil Davis has decided to retire, per his agent @djackson_legacy.

The 49ers traded a 2026 seventh-round pick for Khalil Davis last season. The move didn't pay off as the team had hoped, though, with him only appearing in three games and only recording three total tackles as a member of the 49ers. The team elected to let Davis walk this offseason, even before this news, and opted to add depth at DT through the draft by investing capital in Alfred Collins and CJ West in the 2025 NFL Draft, rather than retaining Davis.
With him now hanging up his cleats, the final chapter of his NFL career spanned five years and included him appearing in four different NFL regular seasons. He played for four different teams, including the 49ers after being drafted in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Although his time in San Francisco was brief and didn't yield much team or individual success for Davis, I'm sure the team wishes him all the best as he transitions from his football career into whatever he has planned next. Davis will turn 29 years old in August and will have ample time to find success in whatever field he chooses to devote most of his time to going forward.
