
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Atlanta Falcons are expected to sign former San Francisco 49ers running back Brian Robinson Jr., an unrestricted free agent. Robinson served as Christian McCaffrey's primary backup during the 2025 season.

Robinson's departure leaves the 49ers with Jordan James, Isaac Guerendo, and Patrick Taylor behind McCaffrey on the depth chart.
Robinson entered the NFL after being selected by the Washington Commanders in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He played his first three seasons in Washington, where he became the team's featured back. On August 24, 2025, Robinson was traded to the 49ers in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round draft pick.
During the 2025 regular season, Robinson appeared in 17 games for the 49ers. He recorded 92 carries for 400 rushing yards and two touchdowns, averaging 4.3 yards per attempt. He also contributed in the passing game with 8 receptions for 25 yards and was utilized on special teams, totaling 378 kick return yards.
Over his four-year NFL career, Robinson has appeared in 58 regular-season games with 37 starts. He has accumulated a total of 2,729 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns on 662 carries. Additionally, he has recorded 73 receptions for 612 yards and five receiving touchdowns.
