Former 49ers Teammate Reveals How Colin Kaepernick 'Changed'

Apparently, Colin Kaepernick changed the way he behaved in the locker room during his six-year career with the San Francisco 49ers.

Kaepernick had a nice run with the 49ers, throwing for 12,271 yards with 72 touchdowns and 30 interceptions. He also had 2,300 yards and 13 scores on the ground. The highlight of his career had to be his 2012 NFC Divisional Round performance against the Green Bay Packers. The former second-round pick set an NFL single-game record for most rushing yards (181) by a quarterback.

In March of 2017, Kaepernick opted out of his contract with the 49ers and became a free agent. He hasn't received an offer to play in the NFL since then.

During an appearance on "Bussin' With The Boys" this week, former 49ers tight end Delanie Walker revealed what Kaepernick was truly like.

Walker, a three-time Pro Bowler with 5,888 career receiving yards, said Kaepernick changed once he became San Francisco's starter.

"Kap was a good teammate. Imma just be honest, earlier in his career he was great. The dude partied with us. Did everything with us, but once he became the starter, he changed a little bit, which I get it," Walker said. "When you become a quarterback in this league you want to be the guy everybody looks up to. He wasn’t out like he was. He didn’t talk to people like he used to because he was more focused on being this guy and that was the starting quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers.

"He changed a little bit and it wasn’t in a bad way. He kinda became a star, when he wasn’t. When you're not a star, you're cool with everyone. When you become that guy, it’s almost like, 'Hey talk to my agent before you talk to me.' You know what I mean?"

Kaepernick has not addressed these remarks from Walker.

What's the latest on Kaepernick?

Kaepernick said in 2024 that he'd always keep himself in football shape. However, it doesn't sound like an offer is coming his way.

“There will never be an instance where I’m not ready, and there will never be an instance where it’s because I don’t want to anymore,” Kaepernick said, via CBS Sports.

For what it's worth, Kaepernick has shown interest in playing flag football at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

“We’re going to work on some things, see if we can make it in there, but would love to be out there,” Kaepernick told Sky Sports.

Who knows? Maybe we'll see Kaepernick represent Team USA.
