Former Alabama Crimson Tide standout named as the top remaining NFL free agent

A former Alabama Crimson Tide standout is the top current available free agent.

NFL.com has former Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper listed as the top remaining NFL free agent as of May 7.

From NFL.com: Cooper’s one year on, one year off pattern continued in two places last season. By all accounts, he was playing through injuries late in his Bills stint, which helps explain his lack of production. Teams could buy the dip for one last big season at a reasonable price.

Cooper, a first round pick by the Oakland Raiders in the 2015 NFL Draft, will turn 31 in June.

The Miami native is a five-time Pro Bowler with his last trip to the Pro Bowl coming in 2023 as a member of the Cleveland Browns.

Cooper spent the 2024 season split between the Browns and the Buffalo Bills, catching 44 passes for 547 yards and four touchdowns in 14 games (Cooper also caught four passes for 33 yards in the Bills' AFC Championship game loss to the Kansas City Chiefs).

The former Alabama wide receiver dealt with a wrist injury that kept him out of a couple of games, but he still managed to have standout game late in the season when he caught six passes for 95 yards in the Bills' loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 14.

Cooper can still be a productive player in the NFL -- especially when healthy -- but he may need to wait until a team is in need of wide receiver depth before he finds a new home for the 2025 season.
