Former Alabama offensive coordinator Tommy Rees is going pro.
On Monday, reports surfaced that the Tide's 2023 offensive coordinator has been hired by the Cleveland Browns as their tight ends coach.
His hiring comes amid an offensive staff overhaul for the Browns. Offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt was fired following Cleveland's Super Wild Card Weekend loss to the Texans, as well as running backs coach Stump Mitchell and tight ends coach T.C. McCartney.
The Associated Press reported former Bills offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey interviewed for the Browns' opening on Friday. ESPN's Jeremy Fowler also noted that Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson will interview for the job this week.
Rees joined Bama in 2023 after a stint as Notre Dame's offensive coordinator. His job became expendable once former Tide head coach Nick Saban retired. Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer is expected to bring in Ryan Grubb to be his offensive coordinator after he performed the same role at Washington.
Rees has prior NFL coaching experience, spending the 2016 season as an offensive assistant with the San Diego Chargers.
His last play call as offensive coordinator was Jalen Milroe's infamous quarterback draw on fourth-and-goal in the Rose Bowl. Reese won't call plays in Cleveland, but he will coach one of the league's best tight ends, David Njoku.
The seven-year vet had his best season in 2023, posting career-highs across the board with 123 targets, 81 receptions, 882 receiving yards and six touchdowns while being named to his first Pro Bowl.
