Former Alabama running back, Najee Harris suffered a superficial eye injury during a 4th of July firework mishap. His agent, Doug Hendrickson, gave an update on his client’s condition to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“Harris was present at a 4th of July event where a fireworks mishap resulted in injuries to several attendee,” Hendrickson said, per Schefter. “Najee sustained a superficial eye injury during the incident but is fully expected to be ready for the upcoming NFL season.”
A superficial eye injury is a scratch or scrape on the clear, front surface of the eye called the cornea. This kind of injury is also referred to as a corneal abrasion.
One person was hospitalized after losing fingers in the accident in Antioch, California, the San Francisco Chronicle reported, citing police.
Based on the statement from his agent, Harris will be ready to make his Chargers regular season debut against the Chiefs on Sept. 5 in São Paulo, Brazil. If Harris were to miss time, the Chargers would lean heavily on rookie running back Omarion Hampton.
