Former Alabama running back, Sherman Williams was named the next head football coach at Murphy High School in Alabama.

The Mobile County School Board approved the hiring on Monday morning. Williams played at Alabama from 1991 to 1994 before getting drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the 1995 NFL Draft. The Alabama native rushed for 2,486 yards and 27 touchdowns during his time with the Crimson Tide.

“Murphy High School is pleased to announce the hiring of Sherman Williams as the new head football coach of the Panthers,” The Principal of Murphy High School Ed Sanderson said in a statement. “Mr. Williams brings a wealth of football knowledge and experience to the program. More importantly, he is committed to serving as a positive role model and mentor for all students on campus. We look forward to his leadership and the positive impact he will have on both the athletic program and the school community.”

The job will be Williams’ first head-coaching opportunity.
