Former Badgers All-American Signs Extension With Buffalo Bills

The former Wisconsin football standout only played 13 percent of the offensive snaps in 2023, the lowest of his career.

Despite the limited snaps, Edwards posted a solid 82.7 grade on Pro Football Focus. The Bills mainly deployed Edwards as an extra blocker in run formations and used him as a depth piece. Edwards’ snap count looks to improve however, as Buffalo recently traded another backup offensive lineman.

Wisconsin Football Standout Signs Two-Year Deal with Buffalo

The Downers Grove, Illinois native remains with the Bills despite deciding to test free agency. The Los Angeles Rams originally drafted David Edwards in the fifth round in 2019. Edwards started in 45 of his first 53 games with Los Angeles. Concussion problems sidelined the former Badgers offensive tackle in 2022 however, and he signed with Buffalo in Free Agency.

With Buffalo trading Ryan Bates, Edwards looks to be the main backup interior offensive lineman in Buffalo. The Wisconsin football star is returning a high level of talent as the backup, as PFF rated him at 17th at his position in 2020.

During his time with the Badgers, Edwards achieved a multitude of honors. He was named academic all-Big Ten for all three years of his college career. Both the media, and the coaches named Edwards to the all-Big Ten teams by his second and third years. As a sophomore, Edwards was named an All-American, culminating with a first-team selection by the AFCA.

Edwards was also a part of the vaunted Wisconsin football rushing attack spearheaded by Badgers great Jonathan Taylor. The offensive line unit in 2017 only allowed 1.5 sacks total, and rushed for over 200 yards a game all three of Edwards’ years. The All-American started 31 games in his Badger career, including all 24 games he was healthy for in his last two seasons.
